University of Alabama School of Dentistry Mr. Jim Wells, President Dear Mr. Wells: Please excuse my delay in getting this communiqué to you. I hope it hasn't caused you any particular problem. We have had the opportunity of evaluating the HSP Dual Fiber Optic System here in the Department of Biomaterials. We specifically evaluated the system for its ability to transmit light through varying thicknesses and volumes of composite resin. The test specimens were fabricated in a special device which may be described as follows: a cylindrical desk of Teflon of varying thickness ranging from one to five millimeters. The center of each disk contained a conical shaped aperture with a mean diameter of 3.0 millimeters. After injection of a posterior resin into the aperture, the surface was exposed to light for twenty to thirty seconds. At this point the reverse surface was evaluated for scratch resistance and presence of unpolymerized resin. Without exception all specimens polymerized successfully to a depth of 4.0 millimeters. In fact, nearly all of them polymerized to a depth of 5.0 millimeters. Without doubt, this particular system is totally effective in polymerizing composite resins to a depth which is appreciably greater than that required under clinical conditions. As you know, after leaving the Army Dental Corps, I purchased a struggling two operatory dental practice in my home town of Nashville, Tennessee. In three years my staff and I were ready to expand into a new, larger space. My office manager and chief assistant had worked with H.S.P. Dental Units in a previous office and really loved them. She suggested that I investigate the possibility of buying the units for my new office. I looked at several different brands including Adec, Pelton Crane, Liberty, etc.... However, none could match H.S.P. in respect to price. A cautious person by nature, I called several people who currently use H.S.P. and found unanimous praise for the ease and efficiency of the H.S.P. Delivery System. Jim, you were extremely helpful with all phases of my expansion. He helped refine my blue prints and even drove from Birmingham to assist the contractor with his extensive knowledge of dental office design and efficiency. The cabinetry is beautiful and after three years of rear delivery, my back and legs are much happier with the new Four-Handed technique that we are able to use with our H.S.P. Units. Everything, including the curing light is right at my fingertips. My productivity has increased and my physical stress has decreased. Even our patients comment on our unique new equipment and feel we are on the cutting edge of technology. Wm. Stephen Jones, D.D.S. 8560 Kingston Pike Health Science Products, Inc. Dear HSP, I would like to share my positive feelings about the HSP units. Having been trained with (true) four-handed dentistry, the concept offered with the HSP units had an immediate appeal to me. It was not until I had been working with the units for approximately one month that I began to physically feel the difference. The HSP stools combined with efficient HSP units have contributed significantly to the improvement of lower back pain both for me and my assistants. After two months, most of my lower back pain has completely disappeared. In addition to comfort, the units provide convenience. Everything is located at your fingertips and very little twisting and reaching is required. This leaves much more time for productive dentistry. It was once said that "the speed of the leader determines the rate of the pack". Oh, we're flying now! Thanks to the success in our practice as a result of the Quest Practice Management Seminar, we were forced to move to a new location last fall, increasing from three to six operatories. Our gross production has increased 35% in 90 days. I now have less stress and feel better physically as a result of the new HSP equipment we installed during our growth stage. Dear HSP: In the early 1970's I attended a course at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry to learn about what is now called "Advanced Clinical Dynamics and Ergonomics." I was so impressed then that I began to seek an appropriate, reliable delivery system to implement into my practice. I wanted to practice productivity, profitably and as healthfully as possible, while rendering the highest quality dentistry to my patients. Finally I found HSP, after having spent thousands of dollars treating my numerous and chronic back, shoulder and neck problems. The antiquated ways we are programmed to deliver and use our handpieces, poor posture, and excessive turning and twisting resulted in my various physical problems. In fact, to remedy my situation I bought Two (2) HSP Systems, had excellent help from HSP, and installed them myself. A few years later, I purchased another two (2) systems for my hygienist. THOMAS M. SCOTT, D.D.S., P.A. Health Science Products, Inc. Dear HSP: Your HSP units we invested in have been a great practice builder, time saver and comfort to work with. We have been using the HSP units and mobile cabinets since the mid '70's. I started with replacing my first unit with a HSP unit. I liked it so much that I equipped my second treatment room the same. Then I repeated this procedure with my hygiene room. All the units have performed super and we have received many compliments on them about how nice, compact and "modern" they look. They are designed so that we can repair most anything ourselves. We have had very little to repair though. It is much like the Maytag washer commercial on T.V. They need very little repair or none. Not only do the units have beautiful esthetics but they are comfortable to my assistants and me. It has been easy to add accessories to them too. your foresight in design for excellence is certainly to be commended. Sterilization, now the first thoughts in our minds, has been simple with the HSP units, carts and cabinets. All the surfaces are easily reached and wiped off and are stable to the new cleaning agents. I would say without reluctance that the units high efficiency, quality and high technology in the four-handed HSP system for dental delivery is top in dental equipment. I would not hesitate to do the same thing in equipping my office all over again. It is a pleasure to use your products. Many times we do not get the feed back on our work that we need. Health Science Products, Inc. Dear HSP: One of your sales reps called me today to inquire if I wanted to upgrade my HSP units. I asked him why and replied, "Would you upgrade a Rolls Royce?" I have had 3 of your units for over 17 years and have no intention to trade them in. They have been virtually maintenance free. Any repair work that has to be done I can do myself. In addition, I don't have any work related back pain due to twisting and turning. Being a dentist, there are times I would like to talk to another dentist who is using a product and can discuss the product's performance based on years of use and experience. Just tell any dentist that is interested in HSP equipment to call me and I will gladly speak with him or her regarding the quality and functionality of HSP equipment. TO: WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Only a very few weeks ago I approached Health Science Products, Birmingham, Alabama, about the possibility of working with my company on a large scale clinical project. This difficult project involved the construction of a 12 operatory clinic in a 3000 + square foot, unimproved space in Alexander City, Alabama. I have known of HSP for many years, and trusted both their integrity and ability to help me. He introduced me to Jim Wells, who worked closely with me for the next six weeks. Jim and Clanton adequately addressed any and all concerns I had about HSP's ability to handle such a large project in such a short time. The end result was that Jim worked extremely hard for me. Jim accomplished much of the construction planning process, coordinated his work with the general contractor, and kept me well-informed during the entire process. HSP produced our equipment on time as agreed upon. The quality and appearance of the cabinetry was exceptional. At the time of installation, Jim personally directed the work at the work site. He and his Birmingham crew even worked, helping us with matters that outside of their area of responsibility. I found Jim and the HSP crew there working on the weekend and evenings to be sure that our facility opened on time. Best of all was the fact that HSP produced the high quality equipment we needed, not only on time, but for a considerably better price than any of the other vendors we contacted. At this point we are pleased with the equipment and work HSP produced for us. I would not hesitate to call upon HSP for any future project. HSP has worked extremely hard to build HSP into a major competitor in the dental equipment market. On this project, HSP out performed and out worked all the other dental equipment vendors with whom we dealt.
