We thank you for your interest in HSP products. HSP has been known for the last 23 years for our state-of-the-art time and motion efficiency systems developed from biotechnological and ergonomic research. We know that there are four very basic questions a dentist must consider and answer when purchasing dental equipment?

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Do you want more money?

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Do you need more time?

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Do you want to see more patients?

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Do you want to reduce your stress and fatigue,
and eliminate your back, neck and arm aches and pains?

Although these may seem like unusual questions from an equipment manufacturer, they are very important questions. They are the basis of our success and will create building blocks that will allow you to become more successful. They provide the new perspective for dentists to evaluate dental equipment on a profitability and functional asset bases versus a unit cost basis.

Traditional or conventional, sit-down dental equipment was designed by dental manufacturers to fit their perceptions of the requirements of sit-down dentistry.
HSP has operated since 1969 on a totally different philosophy:

To design dental equipment employing biotechnological and ergonomic research, to manufacture state-of-the-art products, and to teach utilization of productivity based dental systems designed from clinical studies by several major universities researching time and motion efficiency, resulting in a dentist's ability to increase productivity, have better health and provide better patient dental care.

Clinical studies on the concepts of Four-Handed Dentistry and transthoracic delivery systems were conducted by many teaching institutions and notable clinicians:

HSP is the company that worked in conjunction with the University of Alabama School of Dentistry who developed the Alabama concept of Time and Motion efficiency and Four-Handed Dentistry and specified the required criteria for the equipment to support this concept.

By applying the principals of Four-Handed Dentistry and utilizing HSP's Time & Motion equipment, university clinical studies have shown an increase in productivity of up to 100%.

Any Dentist Can Achieve Up To A 100% Increase In Productivity

Any Dentist Can Experience Major Reduction
Of The Associated Chair Side Stress and Fatigue

This Translates Into

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Either doubling your person income or doubling your time off,             whichever you prefer.

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Better personal health and more energy with fewer arm,    shoulder, back, and neck aches and pains.

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Doctor, which is more important to you?

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Most dentists today state that they would like to increase their   income and would also like to eliminate lower back and shoulder pains.

HSP's equipment realizes these objectives,
and in fact, that's why we say,

"Our Best Product Credibility Is Ask The Doctor Who Owns One."

Doctors that own and use HSP equipment say,
"I would quit dentistry before I would go back to using a
traditional sit-down system, as I would never work that hard again."

Our equipment has incorporated the productivity concepts to achieve time & motion efficiency. Our transthoracic concept provides you the opportunity to accomplish these benefits:

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) The most common question asked is "How is this accomplished?"

The transthoracic delivery design and the concept of Four-Handed Dentistry will greatly reduce your personal stress and fatigue through the elimination of unnecessary and fatiguing Class III, IV and V motions and movements dictated by antiquated and traditionally designed sit-down dental equipment.

The Five Classes of Movements

Time and motion efficiency is achieved through the reduction or elimination
of Class III, IV and V movements.

Motion Classifications
Class I -     Finger Only
Class II -    Fingers & Wrist
Class III -   Fingers, Wrist & Elbows
Class IV -   Entire Arm From Shoulder
Class V -     Movement Of The Arm and Twisting Of The Body

HSP's Transthoracic Delivery System

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Wouldn't you agree that these benefits sound like something you would like to obtain?

Another commonly asked question is:

"Well, won't A-Dec or Dentech (or any other type of unit) accomplish the same thing?"

The long-term, proven answer through decades of continuous university and private clinicians' utilization of this concept and equipment is - No Sir !

Any other antiquated or traditionally designed sit-down type unit forces the doctor or hygienist forever into making Class III, IV & V movements to pick up power instruments, such as handpieces, three way syringe, curing wand, ultrasonic scaler, and electrosurge. These movements create the vast majority of muscular stress and fatigue in dentistry. These tiring movements result in much lower daily productivity. This is what reduces your income potential. The continuing distraction of turning the head and the refocusing of the eyes causes a loss of concentration resulting in a lower quality of patient dental care.

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Can you see how these unnecessary and wasted motions can create stress and fatigue for you and lead to major time losses which results in less income or time off?

Most dentists, not previously exposed to these studies state "I am not sure exactly what is meant by the difference in the concept of sit-down dentistry and its equipment and Transthoracic Four-Handed Dentistry concepts and this equipment."

There are five concepts of operatory delivery unit systems.

Traditional Over-the-Patient Delivery
Traditional Side Delivery
Mobile Cart Delivery
Traditional Rear Delivery
Dentassist Transthoracic Delivery

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Can you see how the first four traditional concepts are functionally all the same since they all force you to turn, twist and reach, and re-focus the eyes to pick up instrumentation?

Most dentists after evaluation realize the stress and fatigue created by these systems and the loss of income due to poor efficiency is a greater cost by far than the cost of the equipment.

The non-ergonomic and inefficient design of these type units also dictates the use of dual doctor and assistant trays for hand instruments. This creates an unorganized and confusing procedural flow of hand instrumentation and materials. Neither the doctor nor the assistant knows who has which instruments or materials on which tray at the required time of use, resulting in even more inefficiencies and confusion.

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) HSP's Transthoracic Delivery System will save time, help you make more money, and reduce back fatigue and muscular pain.

True Four-Handed Dentistry states that all instruments are to be organized by procedural usage on one setup tray and must be transferred to the doctor, in order of use, by the assistant for proper organization and maximum efficiency.

Applying this technique, University clinical studies have shown that the concept and use of a mobile cabinet and pre-set instrument tray significantly increases any assistant's efficiency factor. The mobile cabinet is the only proven method that provides the correct space required for storage of needed supplies and instrumentation. Combined with a pre-set tray system, improved organizational and procedural flow significantly reduces time loss.

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Can you see how the elimination of wasted motions will greatly reduce stress and fatigue and increase your productivity and income?

If you knew you could double your income, how easy would it be to improve?

When productivity is associated with income potential, most dentists agree,
"You do have an excellent point there!"

We would like to think that you and all other dentists will eventually incorporate the concept of Four-Handed Dentistry, but if you choose not to , our HSP Liberty Dentassist Unit through its basic design allows the elimination of all Class IV and V motions that you are required to do to retrieve power instrumentation.

The unit is positioned directly across from you, approximately 12" to 16" from the oral cavity. If you are working alone or for those who simply prefer to pick up their own handpieces instead of having their assistant transfer the handpieces to them, this positions all power instruments within an unextended arm reach (Class III movement), eliminating Class IV and V movements. The elimination of these movements results in increased production and reduced stress and fatigue. If your assistant transfers all power instruments as specified in true Four-Handed Dentistry, you will only be required to make a Class I or II movement.

I think you would agree that there are no other units available today that can totally eliminate your turning to reach for a power instrument other than HSP. Let us pose another question regarding improving your health and patient care, this is referred to as See-Ability.

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Can you sit at your current chair and see the oral cavity with direct vision, while maintaining correct posture, without leaning forward and twisting to see?

HSP understands. Most dentists we talk with say the same. This problem is created by the improper design of many dental chairs having wide and thick backs. To solve this problem, we designed a new chair, the Integra, that has a very narrow and thin back that provides ideal patient positioning and, the MOST important factor, SEE-ABILITY. Everything that HSP designs is with your personal health and profitability in mind, plus patient comfort.

The Integra dental chair allows the doctor to maintain a correct posture and prevents leaning, twisting and bending forward in order to see correctly into the oral cavity. Our matched Ultra dental stools are also designed to provide for maximum comfort and support, correct operatory posture and do not impinge circulation of your blood flow to your legs. The better you feel will reflect in your increased productivity and in the quality of your patient dental care.

By utilizing a correctly designed chair and stools, you will greatly improve your life, health, and longevity. When you combine a chair with built-in See-Ability, stools designed for comfort and correct posture, an Assistant's mobile cabinet with all needed materials and supplies at your assistant's finger tips, and an efficient transthoracic delivery unit, you obtain:

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Maximum Efficiency 111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Better Personal Health 111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Increased Profitability

After a dentist understands the significance, and the inherent values and benefits, of the transthoracic delivery system, a very common question is nearly always asked:

"Why haven't I heard of transthoracic equipment and HSP?"

There is a very simple, three-part answer:

Dental dealer sales personnel do not suffer the aches and pains of a dentist and most cannot see the inherent productivity increases obtainable with Four-Handed Dentistry and transthoracic equipment. Since they are unable to understand, they prefer not to present the values and benefits of our uniquely designed equipment.

The manufacturer and dealer alignments, such as preferred vendors and especially private branding during the last 10 years, have required most sales personnel to sell a specific manufacturer's brand of equipment and to meet specific quotas, and when a sales person's income is derived from meeting their quota they only present the equipment that helps them attain their quota and livelihood.

The Federal Government no longer provides funding for university teaching of Four-Handed Dentistry. Due to reduced operating budgets or lack of qualified staff, many dental schools no longer tech this valuable concept, nor maintain dental assistant utilization (DAU) clinics as this concept required the expense of using full-time trained chair side assistant. Most continuing education on this concept has also been discontinued. With reduced exposure to this valuable technique, many dentists in private practice, due to the lack of continuing education, ceased to demand transthoracic equipment from the dealer sales person.

Because of these factors, in 1990, HSP elected to offer our equipment factory direct to the dental profession. Without dealer support, we have enlisted the many thousands of dentists who utilize HSP equipment daily as our testimonials, and source of referrals. This is why we state, "Our best product credibility is ask the doctor who owns one."

Once a dentist understands and is seriously considering the transthoracic delivery concept, a dealer salesperson will usually introduce a whip type unit as a substitute and our doctor clients then ask, "The dealer sales representative I've worked with for many years says the continental and whip units accomplish the same thing".

This is simply not true. These units possess many shortcomings. We highlight four very important factors for your consideration:

We have attempted to answer many of the questions that dentists ask us about Four-Handed Dentistry and our transthoracic delivery equipment. We will now relate the importance of the transthoracic concept to the four questions at the start of this page.

In the October 1991 issue of Dental Economics , the median solo practitioner in their annual survey reported a personal gross of $275,000, used two operatories, and saw 45 patients per week. University clinical studies have shown that up to 100% productivity increases are obtainable when Four-Handed Dentistry procedures and organization are practiced by a dental team utilizing equipment designed for the total concept. For the solo practitioner with two operatories who obtains only a 10% increases in productivity, the basic HSP system components required will have only a one year pay back on your investment.

111bullet.gif (1628 bytes) Has any manufacturer or supplier ever shown you the equipment and techniques that will allow you to have up to a 100% return on your equipment investment in the first year, and have fewer aches and pains?

The answer is obviously, "No!"

Some of our doctor clients ask one last question:

I understand how my productivity will allow me more free time,
but I need more patients to earn more money?

More dentists have built their existing practice through internal and external marketing techniques. The new free time to more closely manage and utilize your front office personnel and the entire practice team will allow internal and external marketing to become more formalized and successful in patient acquisition. One of our dental client's, a dentist who had paid his deposit on traditional equipment was discussing the severity of his back pains with a colleague in Atlanta. The colleague recommended that he contact HSP. After reviewing the values and benefits of transthoracic delivery and Four-Handed Dentistry, our dental client purchased HSP equipment. By reorganizing and employing these concepts and aggressively applying internal and external marketing techniques and closely monitoring his front office personnel, he increased his monthly gross from $15,000 to $75,000 in only two years without adding any additional staff. After only two months using the equipment, most of his lower back pain had disappeared. We recognize that this is exceptional growth, but the same dedication that got you through dental school can be applied to practice management and significant increases in gross revenues can be achieved. To help further assist our dental clients, we assist you by referring you to many practice management groups who specialize in patient acquisition. We want every doctor who uses HSP systems to become even more successful and to consider themselves among HSP's Partners In Progress.

Back Pain Eliminated - Has First $80,000 Month!

A dentist in Tennessee was grossing $15,000 a month and was suffering acute lower back pain. After switching to the HSP delivery system in 1989, his lower back pain was eliminated in 90 days and his productivity increased 35%. He recently called to let us know that he had his first $80,000 month, while maintaining the same number of support staff he had back in 1989.

Dr. Wm. Stephen Jones
Knoxville, Tn.

Taking A Month's Vacation - Will Still Gross $600,000!

A dentist in Louisiana was grossing $212,000 a year and complaining he had no time to vacation with his family. Several years ago he installed HSP equipment. At one of our recent Four-Handed Dentistry seminars he told us that he is taking a month off for vacation this year and will still gross $600,000 in 1993!

Dr. Curtis Zerinque
Mathews, La.

Reduced Procedural Time Requires Rescheduling!

A dentist in Ohio told us that after having our equipment for 90 days, he had to change his patient scheduling because he had reduced his average procedure time by 15 minutes.

Dr. Ken Kyger
