Jim Wells Dear Jim: Thank you for your time during my recent trip to Birmingham. I enjoyed seeing your headquarters and am enthused about placing a state-of-the-art HSP operatory in the continuing education clinic at Baylor. I hope we are able to move forward rapidly with this project, as I have had numerous requests over the last few months for an ongoing practical four-handed dentistry program. Will your travels bring you to Dallas in the near future? I would welcome the chance to show you our school and have your ideas about how we can improve our continuing education offerings. Jim thanks again for your hospitality. I look forward to seeing you in Dallas soon and bringing our discussions to a mutually beneficial conclusion. Yours truly, Bill William L. Wathen, DMD |

Washtenaw Community College Mr. James Wells
Dear Mr. Wells: Thank you so much for the materials you sent us for the textbook, Comprehensive Clinical Dental Assisting I am co-authoring with Claudia Johnson to be published in 1992 by the J.B. Lippincott Company. We would both like to commend your company for the quality of the HSP equipment. We have equipped our dental clinic here at WCC for the past 23 years with HSP equipment. It has undergone a great deal of stress since it is used by 20+ dental assistant students each week. In addition each week dental students from the University of Michigan rotate through our clinic, thus it undergoes additional stress. Two factors have convinced us that the purchase of HSP equipment was a wise investment. First, it meets the needs of multiple users since it adapts so well to right or left handed operators. Second, in our opinion, it surpasses other units in its ability to conform to all of the standards of four handed dentistry. It truly is an ideal system for the modern dental office and for any dental/dental auxiliary program. Thank you again for providing such quality equipment to the profession. Sincerely, Betty L. Finkbeiner Betty Ladley Finkbeiner

Mr. Jim Wells
Dear Mr. Wells:
It is about a year ago that we started our interaction in the search for an instrument tray that would satisfy our requirements for bulk processing of student instruments here at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. As you know, we investigated the tray systems available in the market place and even tried out several prototypes of trays not commercially available. Since September of 1990 your AIM tray system has been in active use by us. We have 500 trays in daily use, and I am pleased with our experiences to date. Thank you for your cooperation in including the design features we suggested in the development of this tray. I feel that your willingness to cooperate with us in our search for a solution to our instrument tray problems has yielded an excellent result - a sturdy and functional tray that does what we want it to do. In terms of capacity, the AIM tray is, of course, similar to the old HSP stainless steel tray that we have used for many years. The new system is meeting our space needs well in the three areas of primary use (Fixed Prosthodontics, Operative Dentistry and Periodontics). It should be noted that we, in our planning, elected not to include rubber dam equipment on any of our trays. These items, as well as certain hand instruments used only infrequently, are bagged separately for sterilization. We prefer this approach in order to reduce exposure of instruments to unnecessary sterilization cycles. We have had no problems so far, and do not anticipate any in the future. Again, thank you for your support! Sincerely yours, Ragnar F. Flatland Ragnar F. Flatland, D.M.D., M.S. |

DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS
Mr. Jim Wells, CEO
We recently made a decision to expand the Dental Service and add four new dental operatories to accommodate our teaching programs with USC. As we ordered the equipment for the new rooms I knew that we wanted to continue to use your delivery system. I started as a Staff Dentist with the VA in 1974 and your units were installed shortly after I arrived. Those units were extremely easy to use and were nearly trouble-free for the next twenty years. When we moved to a new facility in 1993 there was no question that we would again use the Health Science delivery system. We have twelve operatories that are highly used and equipped with HSP Units. We have been rewarded with continued ease-of-use and low maintenance. As we prepare for construction of the new operatories I have every confidence that we have made the right choice in selecting your product again. Thanks for providing a quality, trouble-free product and for the outstanding customer service that Health Science offers.
Sincerely, Michael R. Padilla D.D.S. Michael R. Padilla D.D.S. |

Medical Center 700 South 19th Street Veterans
Mr. Jim Wells, President SUBJ: Evaluation of Health Science Products' AIM Trays at the Birmingham VA Medical Center Dear Mr. Wells: Thank you for the opportunity to evaluate the HSP AIM Tray at the Birmingham VA Medical Center. As we have found in our 20-year plus use of HSP professional products, they are the top of the line in every way. As you know, we have used HSP units, cabinets, and trays and other items for over 20 years. We have had amazing, functional and maintenance free results from your attractive non-destructible products. The new AIN Tray is a great improvement, and a step forward that the profession needs today, for not only invention control of the patients, but for the protection of the dental health-care worker. The tray now becomes a protective device to minimize contact with contaminated instruments during cleanup and sterilization. The new trays are constructed with the same heavier gauge stainless steel that are in the 125 trays that we purchased from HSP on 3/12/73. We have never had a failure with the clasp or "piano hinge" through many years of use and abuse. We had a few other trays of various materials, plastic and nylon, that were discarded and never used. The new HSP Aim Tray protects the instruments by holding them in place, so that they do not move about in the tray. If a clinic has adequate ultrasonic cleaners, the total tray can be cleaned, or several trays can be cleaned at one time. The new tray is a time saver in that it eliminates several steps in cleaning and realignment of instruments in the tray. Thank you for making functional, quality products for the profession and investing your time in developments of new, more efficient products. Sincerely yours, James D. Austin James D. Austin, D.M.D.

ROBERT B. CARMODY, D.D.S. DENTAL CORPORATION
Health Science Products, Inc.
RE: Health Systems Products What can I say, your system comes the closest to anything on the market that is ergonomically designed with a play for true four-handed dentistry. In today's market place, the word ergonomically is bantered around very loosely by your competitors yet is non-existent. The sad thing is that fact that all the new fledgling dental students are buying into those designs allowing the salesman to close the deal. As I watch the floor of the annual dental meetings, it is all that I can do to contain my composure and refrain from one tirade after another. I have done it with one prominent company's president and nothing happened. Ninety-nine percent of dental manufactures have no idea what is required for comfortable, sit-down four handed dentistry. The dictate the market. My experience goes back in the fifties and sixties when men like Harold Kilpatrick, Thompson, John Anderson and others were taking time and motion studies, organizing study groups, evaluating dentist's needs dreaming, and designing equipment and techniques. The Chayes chair came out of their studies and the fully supine position had begun. The next task was to get the dynamic instruments into the inner circle where the doctor and assistant could utilize them with as much ease and minimal energy as possible. Many dentists and their staff attended these lectures and benefited from them. But as time passed many dentists and manufactures elected to take the easier (and cheaper) wrong than the better and harder right. Coiled tubes came into vogue, poorly designed, and cheaper equipment made the scene and robot-dentists who never thought about comfort bought into them. And why not, weren't those super salesmen the ones who knew what was best for "you doctor". Dentists that do...do Dentists that can't do...teach And dentists that can't teach buy dumb dental equipment from bandit dental manufactures. What should we expect from our dental schools if those lame instructors never new true ergonomics? No wonder that our students of today don't know proper position if they don't have equipment that can help them deliver ergonomic dental treatment. So the dental cervical problems continue, backaches continue, stress, and all poor posture problems continue to the chiropractor's and orthopedic surgeon's delight. The Kilpatricks are gone. The Andersons and the various study groups are gone and no one really gives a damn. Well, one company does and it is HSP and their cadre of workers. Jim Wells and his group are doing a good job against many odds but those dentists who take the time to work out their needs and working environment will certainly consider HSP products. There are no speakers today on the circuit preaching four-handed dentistry and luckily for dentistry, you guys are the only ones doing it. I wish that I were able to go on the circuit and spark this true ergonomics concept again. It is badly lacking and truly needed. Yours in better dental health (thank you Bob Barkely) R. B. Carmody R. Health Science Products, Inc.
Dear HSP, I wanted to relate my experience with HSP equipment to you. Since 1984, I have been using HPS doctor units in my main treatment rooms. I was very satisfied with them, but when it was time to add a new treatment room I got my head turned by ADEC's continental unit. It looked really good, simple to use, and ergonomic. One year ago I purchased the ADEC unit and char. Over the course of the year I find myself gravitating back to my HSP unit. I feel more comfortable using it. The "buggy whips" sometimes hit me in the head when I am attempting to use direct vision. They also hit the light occasionally. I like over-the-patient delivery due to ergonomics, and I tend to prefer the flexibility of the HSP hoses. When I equip my next treatment room, it will be back to HSP. Sincerely, Darrell Hamon H. HSP Dear HSP: I have owned four HSP units for over 20 years and have been extremely pleased with their performance. I have had fewer repairs over the years than most brands, I've been told by my servicemen. The Units are still going strong and I do not see the need to replace them. I will be adding two more units when the time comes to add an associate. I strongly recommend HSP units and would buy them again as I intend to do. Sincerely, Steven Daehlin DDS Steven R. Dr. Jim Wells, President Dear Jim: In the early 1970's, I was exposed to the HSP delivery system, but only briefly. Because of the various positions I held with the U.S. Public Health Service, Veteran Administration, and private practice, I had exposure to a wide array of dental equipment. My thoughts kept returning to HSP. Finally, after moving my office, I have purchased your HSP units. What a relief. They are a pleasure to work with. Much less twisting, turning, and eye strain. Gravity retraction works every time, and won't get off track or pull back or break a spring. No cords to drape or drag over a patient is a pleasure too. Please tell your clients to call me for any questions they may have. Our fax # is 901-380-0802. And finally, I would like to commend you for your assistance and attentiveness in helping with my office plans and multiple drawings. You have been a huge help in getting me established at my new location. Sincerely, Mike Finnern, DDS Mike Finnern |

Gum Disease Specialists To whom it may concern: If you are reading this letter then you are probably in some final planning stage for a dental office. I was in that position during the Spring of 1997. I needed to place the final order with Jim Wells and commit to the final colors and equipment accessories for three operatories. Having completed those decisions, the really hard commitment came, making payment for this equipment three months before delivery. If you are like me, your accountant and banker are puzzled as to why you need full payment up front to order dental equipment. They are encouraging you to make only a partial payment now and the final payment upon delivery because everybody does it that way. The truth is, when you are ordering custom made equipment from a reputable company like Health Science Products you pay with your order up front. When I was planning my new office, I flew to Birmingham and toured the factory with Jim Wells. For those of you who have never had that opportunity, there really is a beautiful, well-organized facility for manufacturing HSP equipment. There is also a place in the back where Jim stores some of the cabinetry, that was manufactured in years past but was canceled prior to delivery without payment. How many of us want to have dental appliances sitting around our offices, with a lab bill in hand and no one to pay for it. Like most of you, as the delivery date draws near, you ask yourself will my equipment be there as promised. I can tell you from my experience that the equipment and delivery exceeded my high expectations in spite of the hectic schedule of plumbers, electricians and floor covering people. By now you have probably invested a great deal of time in planning and designing your office with the purchase of HSP equipment. Commit to the purchase of this well-made equipment and await the day of delivery. There is nothing like watching all of your long awaited plans come together before your eyes.

Mr. Jim Wells Dear Jim: In 1971 I told Ray Cope that his new dental unit would never work. Now 19 years later, I have determined I might have been wrong. I credit HSP with being one of the central figures in helping me retain employees, increase production and allows me to have time to manage my practice over all these years. It goes without saying that I was one of the lucky ones to find this time saver so early in my career. Please thank Ray for me, he truly changed my life. Sincerely yours, M. Max Weaver M. DRS. FULTON & SMITH
CHARLES R. FULTON, D.M.D. TELEPHONE
Mr. Jim Wells, President
Dear Mr. Wells, After using the latest model HSP dental unit, I felt compelled to write you and express my appreciation for HSP equipment. I've practiced dentistry since 1979, taught four-handed dentistry at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry for eight years, and have used various manufacturers' dental units in my association with the U.S. Navy. I can truly say that no other unit on the market comes close to HSP in reliability or efficiency, my tow most important criteria in selection of any piece of dental equipment. When this unit is used in conjunction with other HSP equipment, such as the Alabama mobile cabinet and stainless steel pre-set trays, it allows my assistant and I to practice true four-handed dentistry. There is no comparison with other manufacturers' attempts to allow such efficiency. Everything we need can easily be placed within arms reach without the clutter common to many office settings when other equipment is used. The unit is very esthetic in appearance, can be disinfected quickly, and allows me to devote my undivided attention to patient care. With other units I find myself frequently fighting the unit and trying to practice dentistry at the same time, inevitable leading to frustration and inefficiency. This unit is the result of HSP's years of research and dedication to four-handed dentistry. The effort shows, and I thank you. Sincerely, Roy A Smith Roy A. Smith, III D.M.D. |

Jim Wells, President Dear Mr. Wells: A few months ago you sent me some samples of your excellent information for dentists, including video tapes and a catalog. I appreciated very much seeing your information. I congratulate you for your efforts and know that your program can help many dentists and auxiliaries. I have supported and taught the concept for over 30 years. Since most dentists have used 4, 6, 8 and I use 10 handed dentistry, we will be pleased to know the availability of your equipment to recommend to others. Thanks for keeping us informed. Sincerely, Gordon Gordon J. Christensen, DDS, PhD Senior Consultant |
